General consultation
Many instructors (faculty members and graduate students) find that they’d like to discuss a teaching-related issue with a consultant. If you would like to talk about issues or concerns you have involving your teaching or your students, a GENERAL CONSULTATION might be for you.
What do people ask to discuss at general consultations? They ask to have a course proposal, lesson plan, or rubric evaluated; to consult on a question of ethics in teaching; to have their statement of teaching philosophy reviewed; to get ideas for incorporating social media into their courses; etc. Regardless of your issue, it can be helpful to talk with an experienced consultant.
All UC Davis faculty, teaching assistants, and associate instructors may sign up for a general consultation with a teaching consultant, free of charge. (For TAs, supervising faculty do not need to be involved, but they can be, if you desire.)

FAQs
What happens after I schedule a general consultation?
A teaching consultant will contact you to discuss your concerns.
I’d like to get help with my statement of teaching philosophy before I go on the job market. What should I do?
There are two excellent resources on campus for improving your statement of teaching philosophy:
- If you’d like help developing or refining the content of your statement, the TA Consultants can give you lots of useful feedback and resources.
- If you’d like to improve the quality of the writing, we recommend contacting the Graduate Writing Fellows for a consultation.
