The Science and Engineering Behind Multimedia Communications and
Networking

& Computer Engineering, College of Engineering
Description: This seminar series provides a broader overview
of telecommunication systems in the contemporary society. It presents the basic
concepts, infrastructures, policy concerns, engineering and
scientific challenges
of modern digital communication systems. It will describe the
interaction between
general communication systems and the internet. Multimedia applications will be
given to as enhancing examples. Information will be presented through
weekly lectures,
readings, and discussion.
Format: The seminar will meet for one hour each week. The time
will be divided between lecture presentations and discussions. Reading material
will be provided. There is no text for the course.
Grading:
Students will be required to attend all the lectures. At the end of
the quarter,
students will be required to write a short paper on the future
outlooks of wireless
communications. Students will receive a letter grade based on the quality and
novelty of their paper.
About the Instructors: Professor Ding and Professor
Vanderschaar
are members of the faculty in the Department of Electrical and
Computer Engineering.
Their research interests include wireless communications, cognitive
radio, multimedia
networking, and signal processing.
