Eyes, Eyes, Eyes: The Exciting World of the Way We See
Instructor: Angelique Louie, Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering
Description: The course introduces students to vision and vision research through exploration of visual systems in a number of different species. We will explore the physical and biological basis for vision as well as introduce concepts in perception. Information will be presented through informal lectures, readings, discussions, and student presented topics. Students will give short presentations on topics related to vision.
Format: The seminar will meet for two hours each week. The time will be divided between informal lecture presentations, discussion, and student presentations. Reading material will be provided. There is no text for the course. Grading: Students will be required to prepare a short paper (2-3 pages) on a topic to be chosen in consultation with the instructor. The course grade will be based on the quality of their written (1/3) and oral (1/3) presentations and on the frequency and quality of their participation in class discussions (1/3).
About the Instructor: Professor Louie is a new member of the faculty in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Her research interests are in the field of molecular imaging, especially in the development of probes for imaging molecular events in vivo. She will be teaching a course on Molecular Imaging in the Spring.
